How to Clean a Fountain Pump

Regular cleaning of your new fountain’s pump will keep it working at optimal efficiency. For starters, all pumps must be used while being completely covered with water. Do not run a pump with low water levels in the fountain. To clean a pump, first unplug it. Remove any leaves or dirt that has built up on the pump itself. Check the tubing that is connected to the pump for debris or other clogs. If the tubing is old or kinked, you might want to consider replacing it. If the pump has a removable cover, you can take it off and check for any leaves, debris or algae that may have built up inside the unit. Replace the cover and tubing, then add clean water to the fountain. You can also add a drop or two of anti-algae or water treatment solution to the water at this time. Doing these steps every six months or so should keep your pump operating worry-free.
